In 1942 British soldier Jack Celliers comes to a Japanese prison camp. The camp is run by Yonoi, who has a firm belief in discipline, honor and glory. In his view, the Allied prisoners are cowards when they chose to surrender instead of committing suicide. One of the prisoners, interpreter John Lawrence, tries to explain the Japanese way of thinking, but is considered a traitor.

Composer and actor in Furyo Ryuichi Sakamoto is an internationally reputed musician. As one of the biggest Japanese rock stars, he is a graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts, and he has worked for several years as a studio musician and arranger before he released his first album and joined the Yellow Magic Orchestra. Then Sakamoto recorded as a solo artist and collaborated with many international artists such as Youssou N’Dour, Iggy Pop, Alva Noto, Cesária Évora, Caetano Veloso and Robert Wyatt, amongst others. Sakamoto is an artist of an original style who combines classical occidental symphonic composition, traditional Japanese sounds, and experimental electronic music.
