THE JOHN OTTMAN COLLECTION: VOLUME 1 (2CD / 500 EDITION) (CD)
Composed by: John Ottman

Dragon’s Domain Records presents THE JOHN OTTMAN COLLECTION: VOLUME 1, featuring music from three scores from the composer’s lengthy filmography, including the world premiere releases of LONELY PLACE and BROTHER’S KEEPER, along with a new remastered and expanded presentation of one of the composer’s favorite scores, INCOGNITO.

Released in 1998, INCOGNITO was directed by John Badham (SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER, WARGAMES, BLUE THUNDER), written by Jordan Katz (TRIAL BY JURY), starring Jason Patric, Irene Jacob, Rod Steiger, Thomas Lockyer, Togo Ogawa, Ian Richardson, Simon Chandler, Pip Torrens, Michael Cochrane, Joseph Blatchley and Paul Brennen. INCOGNITO follows Harry Donovan (Patric), a talented painter who takes in large amounts of money for his expert forgeries of old paintings he produces for clients. Harry meets up with a group of gallery owners lead by Alastair Davis (Lockyer), who are seeking an old master painting to sell for a high price.

During his research on lost master paintings, Harry discovers a Rembrandt from 350 years ago that had been lost during transport between Rotterdam and Spain. Harry begins the process of recreating in specific detail the lost Rembrandt. In the process of getting paid for his work, Harry is falsely accused of murder and forced to make a run for it across Europe.

The score for INCOGNITO was released at the time of the film’s release. The composer discovered after the recording sessions that a bad Dolby card in the recorder had created a number of digital problems that were never resolved to the composer’s satisfaction at the time. Years later, he discovered the original elements and Dragon’s Domain Records is proud to present an expanded presentation of the Original score, restored to the composer’s satisfaction.

LONELY PLACE was a short film from 2004, directed by Kevin Ackerman, written by C.B. Gilford and Ackerman, starring Tess Harper, Kurtwood Smith and Tomas Arana. During post-production on APT PUPIL, Ottman was approached by Ackerman to score the film, which he agreed to do when he was available. LONELY PLACE was a throwback to the classic film noirs of the past, allowing the composer to write compelling music performed by a small ensemble for this fusion of thriller and period drama.

Released in 2002, BROTHER’S KEEPER was also directed by John Badham, written by Steven Baigelman and Glenn Gers, starring Jeanne Tripplehorn, Corin Nemec, Leland Orser, Evan Parke, Brian Jensen and Ben Cardinal. BROTHER’S KEEPER follows ex-cop Lucinda Pond (Tripplehorn) who discovers, as she is investigating a murder, that her mentally ill brother, Ellis (Nemec) is involved in some capacity. As her investigation continues, Lucinda discovers how far she’s willing to go to protect Ellis.

John Ottman holds dual distinctions as a leading film composer and an award-winning film editor. Ottman has often completed both monumental tasks on the same films. Such remarkable double duties have included THE USUAL SUSPECTS, X-MEN 2, SUPERMAN RETURNS, VALKYRIE, and JACK THE GIANT KILLER. He has also held producer roles on several of these films, as well as directing, editing and scoring URBAN LEGENDS 2.

As a composer, his filmography includes THE CABLE GUY, APT PUPIL, LAKE PLACID, CELLULAR, HIDE AND SEEK, HOUSE OF WAX, KISS KISS BANG BANG, FANTASTIC FOUR, ORPHAN, ASTRO BOY, THE LOSERS, UNKNOWN, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and THE NICE GUYS. Dragon’s Domain Records presents THE JOHN OTTMAN COLLECTION: VOLUME 1, featuring music composed by John Ottman, including music from LONELY PLACE and BROTHER’S KEEPER, appearing for the very first time on compact disc, along with a remastered and expanded presentation of INCOGNITO. The music has been mastered by James Nelson at Digital Outland and the liner notes were written by the composer himself.

THE JOHN OTTMAN COLLECTION: VOLUME 1 is a limited edition release of 500 units.
