Inspector Jury is summoned to Long Piddleton. In the idyllic village, several people have been victims of gruesome murders; one body is found squatting in a barrel, another on a roof gable. Together with his slightly hypochondriac assistant, Alfred Wiggins, he embarks on a search for clues and encounters the highly intelligent aristocrat Melrose Plant, who is assisting them. Rightly so, because the number of suspects in Long Piddleton is growing, and some dark secrets are opening up.
The music for the film adaptation of Martha Grimes' successful book series was composed by Marcel Barsotti (Popess, Jesus Loves Me, The Sea Wolf), who, in addition to a catchy theme for Jury, also contributed quieter sounds for Vivian, as well as plenty of British flair and allowing the drama of the events to unfold.
