“Well made; there’s a persistent and welcome undercurrent of humour in the script…a reminder of Love’s undoubted talent and technique.”
—Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian
“Slick, evocative, and very violent…it nails the look of the 80s and comes with a great soundtrack.”
—David Edwards, The Mirror
The Firm (2009), writer-director Nick Love’s remake of Alan Clarke’s celebrated TV film, gives us an aimless young teen, Dom (the touching Calum McNab), who becomes obsessed with charismatic football hooligan Bex (the show-stealing Paul Anderson). Beset by hero worship, Dom finds himself involved in the violent activities of a football “firm”: a gang that finds its only passionate outlet in increasingly dangerous battles with other groups of sociopathically inclined fans.
