“A surprising and extraordinary film…Richard Todd in the principal role brings a fervor and eloquence to his acting that fairly lift him right out of the large screen.”
– Bosley Crowther, The New York Times
“One of the rare Hollywood films about religion not to drown in piety…a good yarn combining interesting sentiments and solid production values.”
– TV Guide
Based on Catherine Marshall’s 1951 book about her husband, the preacher Peter Marshall, A Man Called Peter (1955) tells the inspiring story of the Scots-born minister (a terrific Richard Todd) who emigrated to America, ultimately becoming pastor at Washington, DC’s New York Avenue Presbyterian Church and Chaplain of the United States Senate. At the same time, the film is an out-and-out romance, detailing the touching relationship between Peter and Catherine (the vibrant Jean Peters, in her last film). Veteran Henry Koster directs, and the sublime Alfred Newman provides an appropriately soaring musical score, available on this Twilight Time release as an isolated track.
