This is a GREAT set for those who loved the old QM shows. And thank the Lord, there is NO announcer booming out the title of the show ("A QUINN MARTIN PRODUCTION!!!!!"), who stars in it or the episode title! The Cannon stuff is great, *lots* of tuba (we need more tuba!!). The Barnaby Jones music, by Jerry Goldsmith, is (I think) the best of the lot. Very melodic. I had to go find a couple of the old shows on youtube to refresh my memory. The Dave Grusin stuff is quite good to; I just never watched Dan August back then but it's very jazzy and listenable.

The only down side is that (apparently, according to the liner notes) the original tapes were saved by someone in their garage for decades and do not represent the best sources, but as is so often the case now, they represent the *only* sources, and we are lucky to have what there is. It's so sad that so much of the old TV and movie soundtrack material has been lost or damaged now. Once the shows were cancelled the studios just didn't care any more.

The tracks are (not too surprisingly) mono, and they also sound like highly compressed versions (which they may have done on purpose for broadcast back then). So they don't sound as good as I was hoping on my full stereo system. They are fine on a computer or car system, or portable player.

I highly recommend this set and am looking forward to the next one.
