Pentastar Music Verlag is pleased to present on CD the original soundtrack by Ennio Morricone for the western “Tepepa” (aka “Blood and Guns”) directed in 1969 by Giulio Petroni, screenplay by Franco Solinas and Ivan Della Mea, editing by Eraldo Da Roma, photography by Francisco Marin, starring Tomas Milian, Orson Welles, John Steiner, José Torres, Luciano Casamonica, George Wang, Anna Maria Lanciaprima, Clara Colosimo, Giancarlo Badessi, Rafael Hernández, Vittorio Gigli, Ángel Ortiz, Armando Casamonica, Paloma Ciela, Maria Daddi, Paola Natale.

The government of "comrade" Madero does not satisfy the peon Tepepa, who continues his battle against the government troops along with a group of loyal fighters, feeling mocked by the former revolutionary now head of state. Tepepa repeatedly finds himself facing the fearsome Colonel Cascorro and is constantly pursued by an English doctor, Henry Price, eager to avenge a girl from a wealthy family, with whom the doctor was in love and whom Tepepa had raped, driving her to suicide. During the last battle, Cascorro finally manages to wound Tepepa, who had repeatedly eluded him, but in the decisive battle he is killed by the revolutionary. Meanwhile, the doctor, who despite his hatred for Tepepa had remained at the revolutionaries' side, manages to take revenge on the peon, killing him with a scalpel immediately after extracting the bullet from his wound. Tepepa's death, however, does not mark the end of the revolution, and others will continue the fight in his place.

Ennio Morricone composed another remarkable soundtrack for the revolutionary Western genre, creating a solemn, Mexican-flavored theme for Tepepa that recurs frequently throughout the film, alternating with the country-flavored motif for “Tepepa and Price” and suspenseful music (“Tradimento primo”, “Tradimento secondo”). Morricone wrote a mystical and melancholic theme for guitar and orchestra of heartbreaking beauty (“A metà strada”) and mariachi pieces (“Una rosa”, “Ondas de amor”), but the song “Al Messico che vorrei” performed by Christy’s powerful voice is the heart of the entire soundtrack, a true cry of rebellion from an entire people. A great memory for the writer: in November 2003, I was invited to Strasbourg to participate in a Western Film Festival. On the plane, I met director Giulio Petroni, who had been invited among the guests of honor. He was a very pleasant and at the same time very humble person. He spoke to me about Ennio Morricone with great respect and was particularly pleased with his work. His music for "Tepepa." A private DVD screening of the film was held in a small room in the hotel, accompanied by Petroni. The director was deeply moved by the end, and it was a truly moving moment. This 73:21 CD uses the stereo master tapes from the recording session, which were approved by Maestro Morricone. This is a must-have for any archive dedicated to cinema and quality soundtracks.
