Beat Records is pleased to reissue on CD the OST by Ennio Morricone for the comedy film Crescete e moltiplicatevi, directed in 1973 by Giulio Petroni with a screenplay by Giulio Petroni, Augusto Caminito, and Antonio Troiso, photography by Sandro D’Eva, editing by Tatiana Casini Morigi, music by Ennio Morricone, production by Azalea Interfilm, distribution by Pac -Mitel, and a cast including Hugh Griffith, Rosalba Neri, Gigi Ballista, Raymond Pellegrin, Lionel Stander, Fabrizio Moroni, Francesca Romana Coluzzi, Rodolfo Bigotti, Daniela Halbritter, and Silvio Noto.

The plot:

In order to obtain a commission from the Holy See to provide clothing for religious people in Third World countries, Cavalier Placido Pallesi, owner of a company for sacred furnishings, gives his daughter Mariangela away to the layabout Flò Flò, nephew of the local bishop Monsignor Casadei. The girl had previously been promised to Councilor Vladimiro Caoli, an aspiring MP and lover of Lisa, Pallesi's wife. When her mother falls in love with Flò Flò, Mariangela, offended by her mother's behavior, throws herself into Caoli's arms, resulting in both mother and daughter becoming pregnant. At the same time, Placido impregnates his maid Daria, and his father-in-law, the 70-year-old Zullini, dies while having sex with her. Nun Flaminia, Lisa's sister, also has an affair with her brother-in-law and conceives a child, to whom she will later give birth in Rome. The complicated situation will be resolved by Monsignor Casadei, who will officiate the weddings of Flò Flò and Mariangela and of Vladimiro and Daria, while Placido doesn't even realize his wife has cheated on him.

The music:

At the time of the film's release, no official LP or single was released. It wasn't until 2002 that GDM Music released this entertaining soundtrack on CD (GDM CD CLUB 7012), and in 2024, Quartet Records of Madrid issued a 45 rpm single (QRSG02) featuring two tracks from the OST. For this CD reissue with a running time of 44:25), we've used the original elements in stereo, and anyone who missed the original CD now has a good chance of owning this beautiful Ennio Morricone score, which oscillates between comedy, lounge, and romantic moods. The main theme, “Brontolone,” has a classical flavour, somewhere between sacred and profane, for moog, organ, and a fantastic performance by the Cantori Moderni di Alessandroni, and alternates with a love theme performed by the wonderful voices of Edda Dell'Orso, Gianna Spagnulo, and Giulia De Mutis, with Oscar Valdambrini on flugelhorn (Tr.2,6,11,13). Ennio Morricone musically spices up some scenes of the film with Western-style trumpet and castanets (Tr.4), organ (Tr.7,9), and an abstract piece for celesta, harp, guitar, and organ (Tr.12). Given the brevity of this OST, in agreement with Ennio Morricone, on the previous CD and now on this reissue, we include four romantic pop-flavored tracks from the TV series Invito allo sport, directed in 1978 by Folco Quilici (a 33 rpm was released by General Music label GML 10012 at the time and also contained four repertoire tracks).
