The score for "The Four Feathers" has three key elements; the colonial military aspect, a major character driven theme that transforms from delicate love theme to heroic adventure theme and of course music for the movie's setting. Surprisingly ethnic instrumentation has been kept to a minimum, mainly confined to areas of percussion. Ethnic instruments and voices join orchestra to dominate the middle section of the CD as the story moves to the heat and dust of the Sudan before we arrive at the album's best cue "The Mahdi".
Based on the 1902 novel by A.E.W. Mason, this movie adaptation is the sixth of its kind, following the 1915, 1928, 1939, 1956 and 1977 versions. An army officer resigns his commission on the eve of Britain's Sudan campaign causing his fiancee and three friends to send him four white feathers - a sign that they believe him a to be a coward. The soldier, incognito, embarks on a dangerous quest to save the lives of his former comrades in order to prove his bravery and heroism. Stars Heath Ledger, Kate Hudson, and Wes Bentley. 2002
