Le pain nu, a dramatic movie of 2005, is an adaptation of the autobiographical novel of famous
Moroccan writer Mohamed Choukri. The film, which was directed by Algeria's Rachid Benhadj, tells
the story of Mohamed, an illiterate young boy who lives in extreme poverty and is harassed by a
violent and oppressive father. At age 20, his discovery of literature triggers a desire to change in
him; his willpower and determination will lead him to become a primary school teacher and then a
writer.
Composer of this soundtrack is Safy Boutella, an Algerian jazz musician, masterfully and elegantly
underlines the breathtaking images of the remarkable motion picture.
