Quartet Records, in collaboration with GDM and EMI Music Publishing, proudly presents a remastered 50th-anniversary edition of Ennio Morricone’s magnificent score for NOVECENTO, Bernardo Bertolucci’s monumental 1976 historical epic, starring Robert De Niro, Gérard Depardieu, Dominique Sanda, Donald Sutherland and Burt Lancaster.
NOVECENTO chronicles half a century of Italian history through the intertwined lives of two men born on the same day but into opposing social classes. Against a sweeping backdrop of political upheaval, class struggle and the rise of fascism, Bertolucci creates an unforgettable portrait of friendship, betrayal and the changing face of twentieth-century Italy.
Morricone’s extraordinary score is one of the most accomplished and deeply moving works of his career. Richly symphonic, intensely lyrical and profoundly evocative, the music perfectly captures the epic scale and emotional complexity of Bertolucci’s vision. From the unforgettable main theme to the delicate, nostalgic melodies and powerful dramatic passages, Morricone weaves a magnificent musical tapestry that reflects both the intimacy of the characters’ lives and the grandeur of the historical events surrounding them.
For this special 50th-anniversary release, the original soundtrack album has been entirely restored and remastered by Chris Malone, bringing renewed clarity, warmth and detail to Morricone’s beautiful orchestral writing. The 20-page lavishly designed package includes detailed liner notes by film music writer Miguel Ángel Ordóñez.
