“This J.M. Barrie story of a butler who becomes master on a desert island is a sound starrer for Kenneth More…makes a more human and sympathetic figure of the servant who has a firmer sense of snob values than his master.”
– Variety
“Good cast, swift pace, compact running time, top-notch production, More’s admirable performance...a very well crafted and entertaining old-style comedy drama.”
– Derek Winnert, derekwinnert.com
J.M. Barrie’s evergreen tale of an impeccably correct English butler (Kenneth More) suddenly forced to take charge when he and his helpless aristo employers are stranded on a desert island, The Admirable Crichton (1957) is amusingly directed by Lewis Gilbert (later of Bond film fame) and gorgeously photographed in Technicolor by Wilkie Cooper. More is joined by Cecil Parker as the stuffy Lord Loam, Sally Ann Howes as his snooty daughter, and Diane Cilento as the adorably warm-hearted maid, Tweeny.
